How it works
What strut mounts do — and when they need replacing
A strut mount sits at the top of the strut, securing it to the vehicle body and helping isolate noise and vibration from the cabin. On many front struts, it also carries the bearing that allows the strut to turn with the steering. As the mount wears, you may notice knocking over bumps, stiff or notchy steering, or more road noise making its way inside.
Like most rubber components, strut mounts wear with age and kilometres. The rubber can deteriorate and compress over time, while bearings can wear and become noisy or notchy. They're also commonly picked up when the strut is already out for a shock, strut or spring replacement.
For resellers, availability is what counts. Once the strut is off the car, the workshop needs the mount that day, not next week.
Trade tip: check the mount while you're there
When the strut is already out for a shock, strut or spring replacement, the mount and bearing are right there and easy to inspect. If they're showing signs of wear, replacing them at the same time can save pulling everything apart again later.
Signs of a worn strut mount

These symptoms can point to a worn strut mount, but the vehicle should always be properly inspected to confirm the cause.

Our rubber is vulcanised to the metal under heat and pressure to create a strong, lasting bond. Where the application uses a bearing, it's matched to the mount so the strut can turn smoothly with the steering.
The same thinking goes into the hardware and components supplied with each part. If the original application calls for them, we make sure the right pieces are there to put the job back together properly.
